DC Iron & Metal Works LLC is a family-owned metal fabrication shop in Hyattsville, Maryland, built on 25 years of experience shaping iron and steel. We handle custom metal fabrication, structural steel and iron welding, turning raw stock into fences, gates, stairs, railings and security ironwork, and we repair pieces that are already standing. Because we work directly with you from the first rough idea through final installation, every piece is measured and built for your property instead of coming out of a catalog. Do you build custom ironwork or sell standard sizes?

DC Iron & Metal Works builds custom pieces. Fences, gates, stairs, handrails, window bars and security doors are measured and made for your property. That way each piece fits the opening and the style of the building instead of being forced into a stock size.

What areas do you serve, and when can I reach you?

Our shop is in Hyattsville, Maryland, and we work with property owners across Maryland, Washington, DC and Virginia. The shop is open Monday to Friday from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday from 7:00 AM to noon.

Can my old iron fence or railing be repaired instead of replaced?

Often it can. Bent pickets, broken welds, loose posts and sagging gates can usually be straightened, rewelded or reset, as long as the metal has not rusted through. We look at the condition of the piece and tell you honestly whether repair makes sense.

How do I keep wrought iron from rusting?

Rust usually starts where paint or coating has chipped and bare metal is exposed to rain. Check your ironwork once or twice a year, clean off dirt, and touch up any chips or scratches before rust spreads. Catching small spots early keeps the metal strong far longer.

Do I need a permit for a fence, gate or fire escape?

It depends on where the property is. Many counties and cities require permits for taller fences, driveway gates near the street, and structural work such as fire escapes or steel beams. Check with your local permit office before work begins so the project meets local rules.
